Natalie Colclasure

¡Hola y bienvenidos a la página principal de Señorita Colclasure!

Hello and welcome to Miss Colclasure's homepage. This will be my first year at the Union Eighth Grade Center and I am so excited to start teaching eighth graders how to use Spanish in their everyday lives!

I grew up here in Tulsa and graduated from Jenks High School. Next, I attended the University of Oklahoma and received a bachelor's degree in Spanish with an emphasis on World Language Education. Additionally, I studied Latin American history and culture at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso located in Chile.

When it comes to teaching Spanish, my philosophy is that learning should be communicative and fun. Most students who take Spanish don’t learn how to speak Spanish until they are fully immersed in another country; for this reason, Spanish will be used as much as possible in my class so that students will be able to actually speak Spanish outside of the classroom. Native English speakers tend to readily learn how to read and write in Spanish, but listening and speaking can be more difficult. With that in mind, students will have to spend more time practicing those skills inside of class and outside too. For native Spanish speakers the opposite is usually true. Native speakers already know how to speak the language, so we will focus more on reading and writing, but also speaking in formal settings and listening to academic language.

I am looking forward to a great year. If you need anything or have any questions, feel free to contact me through email or school phone.
