Rebecka Peterson

I hold both a Bachelor’s degree (Oklahoma Wesleyan University) and a Master’s degree (The University of South Dakota) in Mathematics.  At OWU, I received the Outstanding Mathematics Student Award; and while working on my Master’s at USD, I received the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award.  I taught for three years at the college level before joining the faculty at Union High School in 2012.  I am thrilled to get to know my students and to take them on a journey of discovering the beauty of mathematics.

I love math.  I believe it is elegant, beautiful, and powerful.  I know we will have a great time in math class this year as we learn about the impressive tools mathematics gives us to describe the world around us.

I also love teaching high school. I know high school can be a time of feeling like you always need to fit in, even if that means being someone you’re not. I hope that in my classroom my students never feel like they need to fit in, but rather that they belong: that they are cherished and valued exactly as they are. There is room for everyone. None of us are perfect; but together we have much to offer one another.
