Denise Thomas

I have been teaching fifth grade in Union Publics Schools since 1979. I earned both my Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Education from Northeastern State University.  I am a National Board Certified teacher and was awarded the Presidential Award of Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.  I have attended Space Camp for Educators in Huntsville, Alabama, spent two weeks in the Rain Forest in Panama, Central America and walked on the cooled lava of the volcano, Kilauea in Hawaii.

In 1993, I was awarded the Oklahoma Elementary Science Teacher of the Year. In 1992 and 2000, I was Teacher of the Year for Jarman Elementary.   In my science classes, students explore science using inquiry through a hands-on approach and the district STEM curriculum- Project Lead the Way. My goal is for students to understand how important science is in their everyday lives and for their future.
