Lt. Col. Ronald McCool

Retired Lt. Col. Ronald McCool has spent half of his military career as an educator - in the technical training and teaching field, either as an instructor or as a commander responsible for teaching airman and officers in their initial career instruction.

“Upon retirement from active duty, I still wanted to be associated with the military, while at the same time continue on a teaching career.  JROTC seemed the perfect fit, not only to stay in contact with the military, but also affecting young lives as they progressed through their education,” McCool explains.

“My style is more freelance than structured,’ he says. “Depending on the course and the age group, I teach some basic JROTC instruction using PowerPoint and handouts.  But my most effective teaching is hands-on instruction, where the cadets can ‘touch and feel”’ the lesson I’m trying to convey. I also allow the class leader to learn leadership traits by allowing them to teach the class, especially for drill exercises.”
